【 Summary 】
Interstellar Technologies Inc. is a start-up company that aims to develop rockets and space transportation services as a private business.
The MOMO engine system that the company is developing runs at a pressure of 3.5 to 4 MPa, and because it handles high-pressure gas, it requires highly reliable piping. At the same time, the company has been pursuing ease of assembly and has decided that Swagelok products are the most suitable for the job. Rocket launches are controlled by adding an ignition source to the fuel and oxidizer, and the fuel and oxidizer are located next to each other. Therefore, if gas leaks from the piping, the expensive rocket itself could explode, which would be the worst-case scenario. In addition, rocket launch pads also have high-pressure sections, and Swagelok products have become indispensable in these areas.
When it became necessary to make modifications to improve the reliability of rocket launch pads, Swagelok® Custom Solutions, a centralized service that provides support for the design and fabrication of Swagelok piping units, was used. At the time, the project was transitioning to remote meetings at the Covid-19 pandemic, and by viewing the 3D model during a web conference and making modifications on the spot, design and construction were completed in a short period of four months, about 1/2~1/3 of the time previously required.
